About the role#

The American Heart Association is seeking an intern for the Kentuckiana Development Team to support the Heart Walk event. This role offers hands-on experience in the non-profit sector, focusing on the planning, execution, and follow-up of fundraising initiatives. You will gain practical skills in event management and community engagement while contributing to the organization's health-focused mission.

What you'll do#

• Assist with the development and implementation of fundraising activities, including pre-campaign planning and post-campaign wrap-up projects.
• Execute external communications via phone and email to donors, volunteers, and third-party vendors.
• Manage data entry and reporting using event support systems like Luminate and Tableau.
• Develop and update marketing collateral, including invitations, social media content, and volunteer rosters.
• Conduct prospect research to generate new leads for fundraising campaigns.
• Support volunteer management and community impact events, such as hands-only CPR demonstrations and educational sessions.

What you'll need#

• Current senior or graduate student pursuing a degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Public Health, Communications, Psychology, Sociology, Economics, non-profit management, event planning, or public relations.
• Experience with public speaking and community engagement in both one-on-one and group settings.
• Comfort with professional vendor and donor outreach via phone and email.
• Intermediate to excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and Canva.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a professional environment.
• Reliable transportation and a stable internet connection.

Location & details#

• Term: Fall 2026 (September 8, 2026 – December 11, 2026).
• Location: Hybrid position based in Louisville, Kentucky.
• Commitment: 20-25 hours per week, Monday through Friday between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm.
• Compensation: Paid internship at $23.00 per hour.
• Eligibility: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
