Intern, Development & Community Events

About the role#

The American Heart Association is seeking a Development & Community Events Intern for the Fall 2026 term. This internship provides hands-on experience in nonprofit event management and fundraising, supporting key initiatives such as the Affair of the Heart and Heart Ball. The role involves a mix of administrative support, community outreach, and event coordination.

What you'll do#

• Assist with the planning, coordination, and execution of pre-event logistics and on-site event management.
• Conduct outreach to event attendees, coaches, team captains, top fundraising participants, and survivors to encourage participation.
• Prepare sponsor presentations and gather materials for follow-up meetings.
• Manage data entry, pull reports, and organize event-related information to track progress.
• Handle administrative tasks, including preparing printed materials, assembling thank-you cards, and organizing event supplies.

What you'll need#

• Current status as a senior or graduate student in business, communications, public health, marketing, public relations, nonprofit fundraising, or event management.
• Proficiency in Canva and basic experience with Adobe Creative Cloud.
• Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with volunteers and community leaders.
• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
• Experience with multiple social media platforms.
• Reliable transportation for travel to Arlington, VA and occasional off-site locations in Northern VA and DC.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Location & details#

• Location: Arlington, Virginia.
• Modality: Hybrid (On-site Tuesdays through Thursdays; remote Mondays and Fridays).
• Term: Fall 2026 (September 8, 2026 – December 11, 2026).
• Commitment: 20-25 hours per week.
• Compensation: $23.00 per hour.
