About the role#
The American Heart Association is hiring an intern to support the Development Team in Knoxville, Tennessee. This role provides hands-on experience with fundraising campaigns and signature events, including Heart Ball, Teen of Impact, Go Red for Women, and the Executive Leadership Breakfast. You will learn the full donor engagement cycle while assisting with logistics, research, and communications.
What you'll do#
- Assist with the development, implementation, and administrative support of fundraising activities.
- Work alongside Event Coordinators, Development Directors, and Market Leadership.
- Manage tasks from pre-campaign planning and day-of execution to post-campaign wrap-up.
- Contact donors, volunteers, and vendors via phone and email.
- Create and update marketing collateral, such as invitations, save the dates, social media posts, and volunteer rosters.
- Support volunteer management by preparing for and attending meetings.
- Conduct prospect research to identify new leads for fundraising campaigns.
What you'll need#
- Current status as a senior or graduate student in business, marketing, public relations, or event planning.
- Experience or interest in sales, promotion, or fundraising.
- Background in event planning for non-profit or for-profit organizations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Canva.
- Comfort with external outreach, including professional phone and email communication.
- Familiarity with multiple social media platforms.
- Exposure to project management tools or methodologies.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities.
Location & details#
- Location: Knoxville, Tennessee (On-site).
- Term: Winter 2027 (January 25, 2027, to May 7, 2027).
- Availability: Minimum of 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday, between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm.
- Requirements: Reliable transportation and a reliable WiFi connection.
- Compensation: This position is paid at $23.00 per hour.
- Eligibility: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
