About the role#
As a Software Engineer Intern, you will join a 10-week summer program designed to help you contribute to real-world technology projects. You will work within the Enterprise Technology Services organization, which supports the global infrastructure, digital platforms, and data capabilities that drive American Express. You will be aligned to an Agile scrum team where you will learn how products are designed, developed, and delivered in a global enterprise environment.
What you'll do#
- Solve business challenges by applying new technologies and writing clean, maintainable code.
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Architects, and engineers to prioritize features and deliver value.
- Participate in code reviews and create unit tests with guidance from experienced engineers.
- Experiment with AI-powered developer tools, automation, and machine learning concepts.
- Build your technical skills across various parts of the stack, including backend, frontend, cloud, mobile, or data engineering.
- Engage in community service, social events, and learning sessions to grow your professional network.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a full-time bachelor’s degree program with an expected graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028.
- Foundational knowledge of computer science concepts, including algorithms, data structures, and object-oriented programming.
- Practical experience with programming languages such as Java, JavaScript, Python, C#, Go, or Kotlin through coursework, personal projects, or previous internships.
- Familiarity with modern development practices like version control, testing, and Agile workflows.
- Curiosity about emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence and machine learning.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a diverse, collaborative team.
