About the role#
As a Counselor Intern at American Addiction Centers, you will support our mission to provide care for adults dealing with addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders. This position is a paid, full-time role based on-site in Riverview, Florida.
What you'll do#
- Provide individualized case management and bio-psychosocial assessment services.
- Lead group therapy sessions and facilitate client activities.
- Develop resources for clients and provide vocational counseling.
- Handle discharge and continuing care planning, including client placement.
- Maintain regular communication with referral sources and outside service providers.
- Act as a liaison with the Utilization Review department regarding client care.
- Attend weekly one-on-one supervision sessions as you work toward your certification.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Drug and Alcohol counseling certification program at an accredited institution.
- Two years of experience in a substance abuse environment is preferred.
- Ability to build effective working relationships with clients, families, and staff.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to speak persuasively and present to groups.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google products.
- Ability to lift 15 pounds and perform tasks requiring prolonged sitting.
