About the role#
As a Software Development Engineer Intern within AWS Database, you will own the lifecycle of your code from design through deployment and operations. You will work alongside a manager and mentor to lead projects that influence the evolution of Amazon technology. This role requires you to solve complex, real-world problems and contribute to scalable services that impact millions of customers globally.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to design, build, and operate innovative products.
- Break down ambiguous problems into well-defined, solvable components.
- Write clean, maintainable code using best practices and design patterns.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to technical documentation.
- Use AI-powered tools to enhance productivity while critically validating AI-generated code.
- Practice agile development and CI/CD principles.
- Handle operational responsibilities, including monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolving production issues.
What you'll need#
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related STEM field.
- Expected degree conferral date between October 2027 and September 2029.
- At least one remaining academic term following the conclusion of the internship.
- Experience with at least one general-purpose programming language such as Java, Python, C++, C#, Go, Rust, or TypeScript.
- Proficiency in data structure implementation, algorithm development, and object-oriented design.
- Experience with AI-assisted development tools.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to new technologies.
- Preferred experience includes previous technical internships, cloud platforms (AWS), database systems, open-source contributions, and version control.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, 12-week internship requiring 40 hours per week of on-site work.
- Available terms: Winter 2027, Spring 2027, Summer 2027, and Fall 2027.
- Locations include East Palo Alto (CA), New York (NY), Austin/Carrollton/Dallas/Irving (TX), Arlington/Herndon (VA), and Bellevue/Redmond/Seattle (WA).
