About the role#
The Allegion User Experience team is offering a UX Generalist internship for Summer 2027. You will work with the GSS UX Design and Research team to help conceptualize and develop solutions to user problems. This role involves collaborating with product managers, software developers, and customer success teams to research, design, and deliver software solutions. You will be part of a supportive organization that values accountability, inclusion, and continuous learning.
What you'll do#
- Work with the GSS UX Design and Research team to conceptualize and develop solutions to user problems.
- Support the creation of design deliverables and documentation to gather feedback from internal stakeholders and users.
- Collaborate with development teams to understand concept feasibility and support design hand-offs.
- Partner with the design ops team to define, document, and evolve UI components that support a designed-to-code workflow.
- Assist in preparing and executing research activities including interviews, usability testing, heuristic evaluations, and card sorting.
- Join weekly design and research review meetings to share work and receive feedback.
- Engage with designers, researchers, and customer success teams to stay informed on user needs.
- Attend bimonthly User Experience team demos.
- Gain hands-on experience with new tools, modern technologies, AI tooling, coding agents, and systems thinking.
- Demonstrate initiative and a willingness to take thoughtful risks.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with iterative design processes and design deliverables such as user flows, wireframes, and prototypes.
- Experience or coursework in conducting user research and usability testing.
- Ability to analyze research data and identify actionable insights.
- Basic understanding of information architecture and web accessibility principles.
- Comfort using design and collaboration tools such as Figma, Mural, Teams, or Slack.
- A proactive, self-starting attitude with the ability to manage your workload and collaborate effectively.
