About the role#
As a Coatings Process Engineering Intern, you will work at our Indianapolis facility to support finishing processes including plating, powder coating, e-coating, and architectural anodizing. You will gain hands-on experience by working alongside engineers and operators in operations, maintenance, and materials management. This is a full-time, 12-week internship for Summer 2027.
What you'll do#
- Monitor daily finishing processes and gather data on bath chemistry, line speed, and quality metrics.
- Support root-cause investigations for out-of-spec conditions under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Participate in small improvement projects, such as optimizing rinse cycles or fixture designs.
- Maintain process documentation, including SOPs, work instructions, and batch records.
- Shadow cross-functional teams in maintenance and production planning.
- Perform process capability studies by collecting sample data, calculating Cp/Cpk, and preparing charts.
- Present your findings and recommendations during team meetings.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- Familiarity with MS Office, specifically Excel and PowerPoint.
- An analytical mindset with strong attention to detail.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- A self-starter attitude with the ability to manage multiple small tasks under supervision.
- Willingness to collaborate cross-functionally and work in a hands-on manufacturing environment.
- Eagerness to learn process-control software.
