About the role#
Allegion is seeking a Maintenance Intern for the Summer 2027 term. This full-time, paid position is based on-site in Indianapolis, Indiana. You will work alongside experienced engineers and technicians to gain hands-on experience in a manufacturing and automation environment while contributing to real-world projects.
What you'll do#
- Apply lubrication, pneumatic, and mechanical maintenance and repairs to production machinery.
- Assist with the development and troubleshooting of automation systems.
- Support the installation, testing, and startup of new manufacturing equipment.
- Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action for engineering-related issues.
- Operate test equipment such as multi-meters, tape measures, and dial indicators.
- Fabricate equipment through cutting, welding, and grinding.
- Ensure safety procedures are followed during all maintenance and repair activities.
- Manage the preventive maintenance work order system and daily maintenance workload.
- Track and report on metrics including schedule attainment and machine downtime.
- Design and implement fixturing, process tooling, and error-proofing systems.
- Support engineering teams with the installation of new robotic processes.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a technical or electrical training program, engineering technology, engineering, or a related field.
- Experience in or a willingness to learn hands-on electrical and computer diagnostic tools.
- Experience in or a willingness to learn hands-on use of mechanical tools and equipment.
- Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Self-starter attitude with the ability to manage multiple small tasks under supervision.
- Willingness to collaborate cross-functionally and support teams in a hands-on manufacturing capacity.
