About the role#
Alcon is seeking a Clinical Data Science Intern for the Summer 2027 program. You will work on a proof-of-concept project that compares synthetic data generation with classical statistical resampling methods using historical clinical data. This role offers the chance to apply modern data generation techniques to real-world clinical datasets while building skills in statistical programming and inference.
What you'll do#
- Generate synthetic patient data using Bayesian networks or generative adversarial networks (GANs).
- Use traditional statistical resampling approaches, such as bootstrapping, to create comparison benchmarks.
- Evaluate whether synthetic data can replicate key statistical findings from original clinical datasets.
- Assess the stability, fidelity, and reproducibility of synthetic data compared to classical methods.
- Build an implementation framework for synthetic data generation and provide recommendations for future use.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited university or college for at least one semester before and after the internship.
- Pursuit of an M.S. or PhD in statistics, biostatistics, data science, or a related quantitative field.
- Working knowledge of Python or R.
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8/4.0.
- Demonstrated leadership through research, academic projects, or extracurricular activities.
- Authorization to work in the U.S. on a permanent basis without sponsorship.
