About the role#
This internship at Washington Beef offers hands-on experience in a beef processing plant. You will work across various departments to learn the integral processes required to deliver quality products to grocery stores and restaurants. This is a full-time, paid position located in Toppenish, Washington.
What you'll do#
- Support food safety, quality assurance, and regulatory programs in Harvest, Fabrication, and Value-Added production divisions.
- Perform audits, conduct validation studies, and gather yield data to validate product standards.
- Create a library of product cutting films to document task specifications.
- Collaborate with management teams across production, sales, maintenance, sanitation, and IT.
- Gain experience in wastewater treatment plant operations, including data collection, sample gathering, and lab testing for process control.
- Learn the design of the production facility and the basics of HACCP, SQF, and USDA:FSIS roles.
- Assist with maintenance program development, including safety protocols, permit requirements, and using PIDs or OEM manuals to build SOPs.
- Gain exposure to HR functions like recruiting, training, and performance management, or IT functions such as service desk operations and DAX systems.
What you'll need#
- An interest in pursuing a career within the agriculture industry, specifically in a processing plant.
- Progress toward a degree in Meat Science, Food Science, Agriculture, Business, or a related field is preferred.
- Junior, Senior, or Graduate level student status is preferred.
