About the role#
Advanced Energy is hiring Firmware Engineering Interns to support development activities in Eden Prairie. You will work alongside experienced engineers on the design, testing, and implementation of power conversion, controls, and measurement solutions. This role offers hands-on experience in product development, laboratory testing, troubleshooting, and engineering analysis.
What you'll do#
- Support firmware development projects as part of a cross-functional team.
- Develop, test, and debug embedded software for power conversion and control products.
- Assist with the implementation of new firmware features and enhancements.
- Perform validation and verification testing in laboratory and production environments.
- Troubleshoot embedded systems using equipment like oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and multimeters.
- Collect, analyze, and document test results.
- Support the integration of firmware with hardware components and system-level applications.
- Assist with the implementation and debugging of communication interfaces and protocols.
- Participate in software code reviews and design discussions.
- Develop technical documentation, test procedures, and engineering reports.
- Collaborate with hardware, systems, manufacturing, and test engineering teams.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical and Computer Engineering.
- Coursework in embedded systems, microcontrollers, computer architecture, digital design, or real-time systems.
- Experience programming in C or C++.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0 is preferred.
- Preferred experience includes embedded software development, RTOS, debugging tools like JTAG or SWD, Git, Python, and communication protocols such as UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, USB, or Ethernet.

- This is an on-site internship located in Eden Prairie, Minnesota.
- The role is full-time and paid.
