About the role#
As a Trim Engineering Intern, you will work with engineering and program teams to support A-surface trim engineering for automotive seat systems. This role provides exposure to the product development process and allows you to build technical design skills while working alongside technical professionals. You will work 40 hours per week on-site from May 3, 2027, through August 12, 2027.
What you'll do#
- Solve design issues using the Basic Engineering Process and lean engineering principles.
- Create A3 documents for weekly and executive design reviews.
- Coordinate sample preparation, test timing, and analytical reports to support seat testing.
- Apply Design For Assembly and Manufacturing principles, including concepts for trim cover sewing and automation.
- Evaluate engineering design changes in CAD and Optitex while assessing the impact on costs.
- Interact with Subject Matter Technical Experts to support issue resolution and project execution.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited university pursuing a 4-year B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or Textiles.
- Minimum overall GPA of 3.0.
- Proficiency in MS Office.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Analytical skills with an emphasis on organization and follow-up.
- Previous internship or co-op experience in an automotive position is preferred.
- Experience with CAD software such as CATIA or Unigraphics is preferred.

- This position is based on-site in Plymouth, Michigan.
- This is a full-time internship for Summer 2027.
