About the role#
Adient is hiring a Lean Manufacturing Intern for the summer of 2027. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Plymouth, Michigan. You will work 40 hours per week from May 3, 2027, through August 12, 2027. The role involves supporting standard labor analysis and lean manufacturing initiatives. You may need to travel to manufacturing plants outside of Michigan.
What you'll do#
- Evaluate and implement workstation layouts using strike zone methodology.
- Design material flow from the dock door to the point of use.
- Document current processes and perform line balancing activities.
- Develop process tools for the Lean Manufacturing Engineering team.
- Participate in continuous improvement workshops.
- Assist with material flow planning for new model year launches.
- Conduct direct labor continuous improvement activities and line rebalances.
- Identify and implement ergonomic workstation improvements.
- Test and implement new material flow equipment.
- Collect simulation data and support core business projects.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited university pursuing a 4-year B.S. degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum overall GPA of 3.0.
- Proficiency in MS Office.
- Strong analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Attention to detail, organization, and follow-up skills.
- Previous automotive internship or co-op experience is preferred.
- Experience with AutoCAD and developing macros is preferred.
