About the role#
The ACLU of Massachusetts is seeking a Fall 2026 intern for the Racial Justice Program. This program works to preserve and extend civil rights and liberties for populations historically denied these protections due to race, ethnicity, or national origin. You will report to the Racial Justice Program Director and work with staff across the organization to support advocacy on issues like voting rights, criminal legal reform, and environmental justice.
What you'll do#
- Support racial justice efforts and public policy work through research and writing.
- Participate in voter registration drives and public education events.
- Staff outreach tables at public events.
- Collaborate with internal advocates and attend community meetings on behalf of the organization.
- Take notes at meetings and report key information to the Program Director and Field team.
What you'll need#
- You must be a current college student who has completed your first year of school.
- Strong research, writing, and organizational skills.
- A demonstrated interest in civil rights and racial justice.
- Familiarity with civil liberties issues.
- Proficiency in Spanish, Portuguese, or Creole is a plus.
- Comfort communicating in group settings.
Location & details#
- This internship is based in Boston, Massachusetts.
- The role is hybrid, requiring you to be in-person an average of three days per week.
- You must reside in Massachusetts or within a 60-mile radius of Boston in a contiguous New England state.
- The term lasts 10 to 12 weeks, starting in early September, with a schedule of 10 to 20 hours per week.
- For students not receiving school credit, the pay is $18 per hour. Students receiving school or work study credit will be unpaid.
- Candidates must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination prior to starting.
