Part-Time Student Worker Software Engineer

About the role#

Zoox is seeking a part-time Student Worker Software Engineer to join the System Design and Mission Assurance team. This six-month contract position involves approximately 20 hours of work per week. You will work under the mentorship of a senior engineer to build tools and automation that support safety metrics for autonomous robotaxis.

What you'll do#

• Help develop and implement scalable applications to automate the generation of safety metrics.
• Collaborate with software engineers and product managers to build and test new features.
• Improve existing tools by optimizing latency, CPU/memory usage, and database queries.

What you'll need#

• Active enrollment in a 2-year or 4-year college program pursuing a degree or certificate in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Exposure to SQL, Spark, JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, CSS, or Python.
• Experience with a Front-End UI framework (e.g., Vue, React, Svelte) or a web framework (e.g., Flask, FastAPI).
• Proficiency with Google Suite or Microsoft Office and a willingness to learn tools like JIRA or Confluence.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Bonus points for familiarity with low-level languages (Java, Kotlin, C, C++, or Rust), Linux system protocols, firmware, ECUs, or AI-assisted development tools.
