Part-Time Student Worker Automation & Behavioral Science Engineer

About the role#

Zoox is seeking a student worker to join the Software Platforms and Product team to build and validate a driving risk assessment system. This role focuses on developing an experimental RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) system to proactively test autonomous-vehicle behavior. You will work on ambiguous, open-ended problems, applying a researcher's mindset to iterate rapidly from prototype to demo.

What you'll do#

• Design, build, and iterate on an end-to-end RAG pipeline for autonomy validation.
• Define and run empirical experiments to validate hypotheses with data rather than assumptions.
• Work through complex, open-ended problems with a focus on rapid iteration.
• Communicate results, technical trade-offs, and project uncertainty to team members and stakeholders.

What you'll need#

• Currently pursuing a B.S. or M.S. in a quantitative field, such as Computer Science, Physics, Biology, Mathematics, or Electrical Engineering.
• Strong programming skills in Python.
• Solid understanding of data manipulation using tools such as SQL, Pyspark, or Scala.
• A strong foundation in machine learning and statistics.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
• Ability to operate independently under high uncertainty.

• Commitment: This is a part-time contract position requiring a 40-hour weekly commitment for a 6-month project.
• Compensation: $30 per hour via a third-party vendor.
