About the role#
Ziegler Caterpillar offers an internship program for students pursuing careers in diesel and heavy equipment mechanics. You will gain hands-on experience by diagnosing and repairing equipment while working alongside senior technicians. This role is based in Des Moines, Iowa, and operates on a rolling basis. The starting wage is $21.00 per hour.
What you'll do#
- Assist in troubleshooting and repairing heavy diesel engines and construction or agriculture equipment.
- Work directly with senior technicians to build your mechanical skills.
- Respond to customer needs in a timely and positive manner.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
- Participate in diagnosing and repairing a variety of equipment in a shop setting.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a 2-year degree program for diesel engine, construction, or agricultural equipment mechanics.
- Good academic standing and positive recommendations from your instructors.
- Your own set of mechanic tools.
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs and push or pull up to 50 lbs.
- Comfort working in environments that may involve loud noise and both indoor or outdoor conditions.
- Ability to pass a drug test, as this is a safety-sensitive position.
