About the role#
The School Age Site Intern supports the daily operations of our child development programs. You will assist in providing a safe and supportive environment for children while working under the guidance of our staff. This is a part-time, paid position based in Middletown, Delaware. Please note that interns must remain under the direct observation of a School Age Assistant at all times and cannot be left alone with children except as permitted by Delacare regulations.
What you'll do#
- Supervise children and group activities while following safe and healthy childcare practices.
- Provide daily care, including feeding and supporting the social and emotional needs of children.
- Engage children in classroom activities, transitions, mealtimes, and gross motor play.
- Help plan and lead age-appropriate activities that encourage learning.
- Use positive behavior management techniques to maintain classroom discipline.
- Observe children and document their progress and development.
- Communicate with co-workers, administrators, and parents to build positive relationships.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized facility.
- Complete required program documentation, such as attendance records and meal counts.
- Attend staff meetings, family nights, and professional development training sessions.
What you'll need#
- You must be at least 16 years old and at least four years older than any child in your care.
- Completion of three college credits in recreation, elementary education, or school-age administration OR 15 clock-hours of quality-assured training in school-age care.
- Ability to pass a criminal history, child abuse, and adult abuse background check.
- Completion of a physical and tuberculosis screening within 30 days of hire.
- Patience, compassion, and strong active listening skills.
- Ability to manage a large group of children.
- Preferred: Prior experience working with youth, knowledge of child development theory, and the ability to work either 5 mornings or 5 afternoons per week.

- Pay Rate: $15.00 - $15.50 per hour, based on qualifications and experience.
