About the role#
The School Age Site Intern supports the daily operations of youth programs at the Sussex YMCA. This position involves working directly with children to provide a safe, supportive, and educational environment. Interns assist in classroom activities, implement behavior management techniques, and maintain program documentation under the supervision of senior staff.
What you'll do#
- Supervise children and group activities while ensuring safe and healthy practices.
- Provide daily care, including feeding and supporting the social and emotional needs of children.
- Engage and encourage children during classroom activities, mealtimes, and transitions.
- Implement positive behavior management techniques to maintain a supportive environment.
- Assist in observing children and documenting their developmental progress.
- Maintain clean and safe facilities and equipment.
- Communicate effectively with parents, co-workers, and administration to foster collaboration.
- Complete required program documentation, such as attendance records and meal counts.
What you'll need#
- Must be at least 16 years of age and at least four years older than any child in your care.
- Successful completion of three college credits in education-related fields OR at least 15 clock hours of quality-assured training in school-age care.
- Completion of a physical and tuberculosis screening within 30 days of hire.
- Successful completion of a criminal history, child abuse, and adult abuse background check.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and exhibit patience and compassion.
- Strong interpersonal and active listening skills.
