About the role#
The School Age Site Intern supports the daily operations of youth programs at the Sussex YMCA. This role focuses on creating a supportive environment for children while assisting staff with supervision and classroom activities. Interns work under the direct observation of a School Age Assistant to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
What you'll do#
- Supervise children during all activities and ensure safe, healthy practices.
- Provide daily care, including feeding and social or emotional support.
- Encourage participation in classroom activities, mealtimes, and transitions.
- Implement positive behavior management techniques to maintain a productive environment.
- Assist in observing children and documenting their developmental progress.
- Maintain clean and safe facilities and equipment.
- Complete required program documentation, such as attendance records and meal counts.
- Participate in family nights, staff meetings, and professional development training.
What you'll need#
- Minimum age of 16 years.
- Must be at least four years older than any child in your care.
- Completion of three college credits in education-related fields OR 15 clock hours of quality-assured training in school-age care.
- Ability to complete a physical and tuberculosis screening within 30 days of hire.
- Successful completion of criminal history, child abuse, and adult abuse background checks.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Patience and the ability to work with a diverse community.
