About the role#
The Early Childhood Intern supports the daily operations of the Brandywine YMCA Family center. This role involves working directly with children to provide care and facilitate learning activities. Interns must operate under the direct observation of an Early Childhood Assistant Teacher, unless they meet specific age and tenure requirements defined by DelaCare regulations.
What you'll do#
- Supervise children, classrooms, and assigned activities while maintaining safe and developmentally appropriate practices.
- Provide daily care, including diapering, toileting, and feeding.
- Engage and support children during instructional times, mealtimes, transitions, and gross motor activities.
- Assist in planning and implementing daily age-appropriate classroom activities.
- Observe children and document their developmental progress.
- Implement positive behavior management techniques.
What you'll need#
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Successful completion of at least 15-clock hours of quality assured training in early care and education OR at least three college credits in child development or early childhood education.
- Ability to complete a physical and tuberculosis screening with physician documentation within 30 days of hire.
- Successful completion of a criminal history, child abuse, and adult abuse background check as required by the State of Delaware.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Preferred qualifications include multi-lingual skills and prior experience working with youth in a group setting.
