About the role#
The Early Childhood Intern supports the daily operations of the Brandywine YMCA Family Center. This paid, full-time position involves working directly with children to support their development and classroom engagement. Interns must work under the direct observation of an Early Childhood Assistant Teacher, though interns 18 or older who meet specific background and tenure requirements may supervise groups of children ranging from toddlers to school age.
What you'll do#
- Supervise children, classrooms, and assigned activities while maintaining safe and developmentally appropriate practices.
- Provide daily care, including assistance with toileting, diapering, and feeding.
- Engage and support children during instructional times, mealtimes, transitions, and motor activities.
- Assist in the planning and implementation of daily age-appropriate classroom activities.
- Observe children and document their progress and development.
- Implement positive behavior management techniques.
What you'll need#
- Must be at least 16 years of age (or 15 if enrolled in a specific vocational or career pathway program in early childhood education).
- Successful completion of at least 15-clock hours of quality assured training in early care and education OR at least three college credits in child development or early childhood education.
- Ability to complete a physical and tuberculosis screening with physician documentation within 30 days of hire.
- Successful completion of a criminal history, child abuse, and adult abuse background check.
- Preferred qualifications include multi-lingual skills and prior experience working with youth in a group setting.
