About the role#
As a Truck Driver Student at XPO, you will participate in a training program designed to help you obtain your CDL-A. This position provides on-the-job experience as an LTL driver, requiring you to maintain accurate records, adhere to safety policies, and communicate effectively with service center personnel. This is a full-time, on-site role with a rolling term.
What you'll do#
- Attend training sessions to obtain a CDL-A license.
- Perform vehicle inspections under section 396.13 of the FMCSR.
- Maintain records in accordance with FMCSR, DOT, and company policies.
- Load and unload freight, including the use of a forklift.
- Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
- Safely operate heavy equipment, including moving and positioning a converter dolly with an average pull force of approximately 128 lbs.
- Lift freight and objects weighing 50 lbs. frequently, and occasionally over 75 lbs.
- Operate a tractor-trailer combination under supervision for up to 11 consecutive hours in various weather conditions.
- Perform physical tasks including reaching, bending, climbing, pushing, pulling, twisting, squatting, and kneeling.
What you'll need#
- Minimum age of 21 years.
- At least 1 year of related experience.
- A valid state-issued driver's license held for at least 12 months.
- Ability to attain a CDL-A permit by the first day of class and secure required endorsements within 90 days.
- Completion of a TSA fingerprint-based background check by the second week of class.
- A safe driving record and history.
- Ability to pass a DOT drug test with no prior positive tests or refusals in the last 3 years.
- Ability to pass a company-paid DOT physical and pre-hire test.
- Availability to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, nights, and weekends.
- Proficiency in reading and speaking English to converse with the public, understand traffic signs, and complete reports.
- Preferred: Forklift experience and a Class B CDL.
