    About the role#

    The Commissioning Engineering Intern supports our engineering staff with the testing and commissioning of substation additions and modifications. You will gain experience across power system protection and control, including protection system modeling and regulatory compliance tasks. This internship is a paid position starting May 24, 2027, with the potential to extend based on performance and business needs. We require a commitment of one year or longer.

    What you'll do#

    • Assist with protection system modeling and conduct short circuit studies.
    • Create commissioning test plans and manage related documentation.
    • Perform power system analysis using specialized software tools.
    • Develop automated tests and run relay tests in the lab.
    • Review power system controls design.
    • Participate in field visits to observe and learn commissioning practices.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment as a freshman or higher at an ABET accredited college or university.
    • Pursuing a degree in Electrical or Power Systems Engineering.
    • Ability to work full-time during the summer and part-time during the school year.
    • Ability to travel to project sites and work in both field and office settings.
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
    • Self-motivation, good mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work well with others.
    • Coursework in power systems is preferred.

    • Locations: Maple Grove, MN; Golden, CO; or Amarillo, TX.
    • Work Modality: Hybrid and on-site.
    • Compensation: $19.30 to $24.60 per hour.
    • Benefits: Pension, 401(k) plan, paid time off, and holidays.
