About the role#
This paid internship offers hands-on experience within the Accounting, Finance, or Tax departments at Xcel Energy. You will support the CFO organization by contributing to core business objectives and collaborating with internal stakeholders. This role provides exposure to financial systems and tools while allowing you to apply your academic knowledge to real-world business challenges. You will work on team projects and have the opportunity to present your work to senior leadership.
What you'll do#
- Participate in monthly financial processes, including journal entry preparation, account reconciliations, and budgeting or forecasting.
- Assist with financial, regulatory, tax, FERC, and SEC reporting.
- Review financial data to identify trends, business drivers, and discrepancies.
- Collaborate with business partners to gather information and support data requests.
- Support audit, compliance, tax filings, and due diligence activities.
- Suggest improvements to documentation and processes through automation or knowledge sharing.
- Work on special projects as assigned.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited college or university as a Junior or higher as of Fall 2027.
- Pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related STEM field.
- Ability to work full-time, up to 40 hours per week, during the summer.
- A 3.0 GPA or higher is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and an interest in the energy industry.
