About the role#
WSP is hiring a Roadway Intern for the Summer 2027 program. This is a full-time, on-site role based in Lexington or Louisville, Kentucky. You will work alongside senior staff on active projects to gain hands-on experience in transportation infrastructure. The 12-week program is scheduled to begin on May 17, 2027.
What you'll do#
- Support engineering tasks to build your technical and professional skills.
- Learn principles of traffic engineering, including traffic signal design, roadway lighting, and Intelligent Transportation Systems.
- Assist with project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations.
- Help prepare final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates.
- Maintain project documentation and complete required training.
- Follow company policies regarding safety, conduct, and ethics.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited undergraduate, masters, or PhD program in Civil Engineering or a related field, with a graduation date of December 2027 or later.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Interest in traffic engineering and a desire to advance your skills.
- Basic proficiency with technical writing, office software, and spreadsheets.
- Ability to follow direction from managers and mentors.
- Strong communication skills.
- Experience with Open Roads Designer is preferred.
- Previous internship or campus leadership experience is a plus.
