About the role#
This is a full-time, 12-week paid internship for Summer 2027. You will work alongside senior staff to gain experience in fire protection and life safety engineering. The program begins on May 17, 2027, though individual start dates may be flexible. Please note that this position does not provide relocation or housing assistance.
What you'll do#
- Research building, life safety, and fire code requirements, including ICC and NFPA standards.
- Assist in the design of fire protection systems, such as fire sprinklers, detection, alarm, smoke management, and egress systems.
- Prepare fire engineering calculations, ranging from hand calculations to 3D computational smoke modeling and evacuation analysis.
- Support the commissioning of fire alarm, suppression, smoke control, and life safety systems.
- Review architectural drawings for code compliance and help produce fire safety strategy documents.
- Perform engineering tasks under supervision to develop technical and professional skills.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited undergraduate program for Fire Protection Engineering or a related major.
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- Basic proficiency with technical writing, office software, spreadsheets, and engineering tools.
- Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship.
- A strong interest in advancing your skills in fire protection and life safety.
