About the role#
WSP is seeking a full-time Electrical Engineering Intern to join our Power and Energy team for the Summer 2027 program. This 12-week internship offers hands-on experience working alongside senior staff on real-world utility projects. You will gain exposure to professional engineering practices and participate in our internal network for developing professionals.
What you'll do#
- Support engineering tasks to develop technical and ethical skills.
- Work with experienced engineers on utility substation design.
- Participate in detailed design for low to extra-high-voltage substations, including one-line diagrams, relaying schematics, and cable routing.
- Perform design calculations that follow IEEE, NEC, NESC, and other industry standards.
- Assist senior engineers with QA/QC design checks and project documentation.
- Complete assigned training and follow company policies regarding conduct and resources.
What you'll need#
- Active enrollment in an accredited Electrical Engineering undergraduate program with an expected graduation date of August 2027 or later.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Demonstrated interest in electrical engineering or the electric utility industry.
- Basic proficiency with technical writing, office software, and spreadsheets.
- Ability to take direction from leadership and mentors.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety.
- Completion of junior-level courses in power system analysis or protection is preferred.
- Prior internship or campus leadership experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with software such as MATHCAD, SOLIDWORKS, AUTOCAD, MICROSTATION, or Microsoft Excel.
- Candidates who have passed or scheduled the FE/EIT exam are strongly considered.

- Locations: Meridian, Idaho or Reno, Nevada.
- Term: Summer 2027 (12-week program starting May 17, 2027).
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: $22.17 to $29.96 per hour.
