About the role#
This is a full-time, paid Electrical Engineering internship based in Tyler, Texas. You will work on-site with our Power and Energy team during the summer of 2027. This 12-week program allows you to gain experience on real projects while working alongside senior engineers.
What you'll do#
- Support engineering tasks to build your technical and professional skills.
- Learn the basic principles of electrical engineering under the guidance of experienced staff.
- Participate in substation design, including electrical, physical, grounding, and relaying aspects.
- Assist with transmission and distribution projects.
- Gain experience in system relaying and protection, including station and transmission relaying, plus distribution coordination studies.
- Collect and maintain project documentation.
- Complete assigned training and follow company policies regarding ethics, conduct, and safety.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an ABET-accredited bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD program in electrical engineering or a related field, with a graduation date of August 2027 or later.
- Successful completion of junior-level power system coursework, such as three-phase power, protective relaying, transmission line theory, and power system transients.
- Basic proficiency with technical writing, Microsoft Excel, and engineering software like AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Mathcad.
- Ability to take direction from managers and mentors.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- Preference is given to students who have passed or are scheduled to take the FE/EIT exam.
