About the role#
WSP is seeking a full-time Civil Engineering Intern to join our Power and Energy team in Syracuse, New York. This 12-week summer internship, beginning May 17, 2027, offers hands-on experience working alongside senior staff on overhead transmission line projects. You will gain exposure to real-world infrastructure challenges and participate in our professional development network.
What you'll do#
- Assist with the research, design, and construction of overhead transmission lines ranging from 69kV to 765kV.
- Execute engineering calculations involving structural analysis, concrete and steel design, soil mechanics, foundation design, and surveying.
- Collect and analyze data from physical work sites, blueprints, GIS data, maps, and geotechnical reports.
- Verify site characteristics and provide technical assistance for design and construction issues.
- Generate accurate documentation using electronic systems, drawings, and field logs.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to challenge current design practices and improve work quality.
- Comply with safety guidelines and adhere to company policies, including the Code of Conduct.
What you'll need#
- Active enrollment in an accredited Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering undergraduate program.
- Anticipated graduation date of August 2027 or later.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Familiarity with design software such as PLS-CADD Suite, MicroStation, AutoCAD, and Excel.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose issues to their root cause.
- Competent communication skills and the ability to take direction from leadership.
- A proven track record of upholding workplace safety.
- Prior internship experience in Power Delivery and campus leadership involvement are preferred.

- Compensation: $23.03 - $29.96 per hour.
