About the role#
This is a full-time, paid summer internship based in Charlotte, North Carolina. You will join the North Carolina Transportation Team for a 12-week program starting in May 2027. You will work alongside senior staff on transportation projects such as interstate reconstruction, interchange design, and bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure.
What you'll do#
- Support engineering tasks to build your technical and professional skills.
- Assist with project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations.
- Help prepare final design plans, cost estimates, and special provisions.
- Collect and maintain project documentation.
- Complete assigned training modules.
- Adhere to company policies regarding safety, ethics, and conduct.
What you'll need#
- Active enrollment in an accredited undergraduate program for Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Anticipated graduation date of December 2027 or later.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Interest in transportation design and a desire to grow your professional skills.
- Proficiency with technical writing, office software, and spreadsheets.
- Ability to communicate effectively with engineering and non-engineering teams.
- Experience with Microstation or OpenRoads Designer is preferred.
- Prior internship or campus leadership experience is a plus.
