About the role#
As a PhD Research Intern, you will apply your technical expertise to solve real-world problems. You will work on a project-based internship where you own a specific initiative from research and design through to a functional prototype. You will be paired with a mentor and work alongside engineers, product managers, and domain experts to address customer needs.
What you'll do#
- Design, code, and test novel AI/ML solutions using your research skills.
- Develop, evaluate, and iterate on AI/ML models, including LLMs, to address core business problems.
- Analyze existing platforms to identify bottlenecks and propose improvements.
- Gain hands-on experience with production systems, including CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code.
- Present your findings and project outcomes to the team and key stakeholders.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a PhD program in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
- Demonstrated research experience in AI, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, or Generative AI.
- Strong programming skills in Python, Java, C#, or GoLang.
- A deep understanding of modern ML algorithms, platforms, and packages.
- A solid grasp of probability and statistics concepts.
- Ability to translate complex research into practical applications.

- This is a full-time, paid, remote internship with rolling start dates.
- Candidates must reside within 30 miles of Portland, ME; Boston, MA; Chicago, IL; Dallas, TX; the San Francisco Bay Area, CA; or Seattle, WA.
