About the role#
Western National Insurance is hiring a Claims Intern for our Summer 2027 program in Anchorage. This paid, full-time role offers hands-on experience in the insurance industry. You will work directly with our Claims team on projects involving data collection, entry, and claims resolution.
What you'll do#
- Research and confirm coverage for property and casualty claims.
- Investigate claims using witness information, online tools, medical records, and vendor services.
- Assess compensability and handle the review and payment of estimates, medical bills, and vendor invoices.
- Set and modify reserves on claims.
- Collaborate with underwriters, loss control, insureds, and agents to provide customer service.
- Attend off-site events like inspections, depositions, court appearances, and mediations.
- Shadow other roles within the company to learn about insurance careers.
- Assist with documentation, data reporting, and various assigned projects.
What you'll need#
- Completion of at least two years of college is preferred.
- Ability to work on-site at our Anchorage office.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Professional communication skills and a focus on customer service.
- An understanding of technology solutions.
- Willingness to assist with a variety of tasks ranging from data entry to claims resolution.
