About the role#
This Summer 2027 internship in Rockville, Maryland, offers students the chance to work on structural design, restoration, forensic investigations, and building envelope projects. You will work alongside experienced engineers on a variety of structures, including parking facilities, commercial buildings, and historic sites. This role focuses on applying classroom knowledge to real-world projects while developing technical and professional skills.
What you'll do#
- Learn how engineering, architecture, and construction come together to deliver projects.
- Assist with structural analysis, calculations, and design tasks for new and existing structures.
- Participate in field investigations, site visits, and condition assessments.
- Support the preparation of engineering reports, drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
- Collect project-related data like field measurements, codes, and technical standards.
- Observe construction activities and assist with construction administration.
- Review shop drawings, submittals, and contractor requests for information.
- Gain exposure to restoration, forensic engineering, and building envelope consulting.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
What you'll need#
- Junior or Senior standing in a Bachelor's program for Civil or Structural Engineering, or current enrollment in a Master's program.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Interest in structural restoration, forensic investigations, and existing-building evaluation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Strong attention to detail and an eagerness to learn.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, or structural engineering software is a plus.
