About the role#
Walker Consultants is looking for a Structural Engineering Intern to join our Minneapolis office for the Summer 2027 term. This role offers the chance to work with experienced engineers on structural design, restoration, forensics, and building envelope projects. You will gain hands-on experience supporting project development from initial investigation through construction administration.
What you'll do#
- Work with Project Engineers and Project Managers on project design and documentation.
- Prepare and revise structural drawings, details, calculations, and technical reports.
- Use Revit to develop and coordinate 3D building models.
- Perform structural design calculations for building structures, foundations, and retaining systems.
- Interpret and apply building codes, industry standards, and project requirements.
- Assist with field investigations, site visits, condition assessments, and construction observations.
- Review construction documents, shop drawings, and project submittals.
- Participate in project coordination meetings and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
- Support the preparation of engineering reports and other project deliverables.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Architectural/Engineering Technology.
- 0-5 years of structural design experience.
- Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Reliable access to a personal vehicle for the duration of the internship.
- Knowledge and experience using Revit.
- Understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project, and AutoCAD.
- Coursework or experience in Structural Analysis, Reinforced Concrete, Steel Design, or Foundation Design.
- Interest in restoration, forensic investigations, and building envelope consulting.
- Willingness to travel locally for site visits and fieldwork.
