About the role#
The Mechanical Engineering Intern will support the design, documentation, and continuous improvement of custom busbar systems and electromechanical products for critical power infrastructure. You will work in an engineered-to-order environment where every solution is uniquely designed. This role offers hands-on experience through project ownership and technical mentorship alongside experienced engineers and manufacturing teams.
What you'll do#
- Assist with 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks.
- Support engineering change requests, drawing revisions, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) maintenance.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams to resolve production issues.
- Participate in design reviews, peer reviews, and first-of-a-kind product builds.
- Support documentation within PLM and ERP systems while verifying data for accuracy.
- Contribute to Lean and continuous improvement initiatives, including the standardization of templates and design libraries.
- Complete a defined internship project with measurable business impact and deliver a final presentation to leadership.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
- Completion of at least your sophomore year.
- Basic knowledge of Statics, Mechanics of Materials, Manufacturing Processes, and Machine Design.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and within a team.
- Preferred: Experience with SolidWorks, engineering drawings, GD&T, and manufacturing processes like sheet metal fabrication or welding.
- Preferred: Experience with robotics, Formula SAE, or other design competitions.
- Preferred: GPA of 3.0 or higher.
