About the role#
Vertical Mechanical Group is looking for a Project Engineer Intern to join our team. You will work directly with Project Managers, Superintendents, and field staff to learn the mechanics of commercial HVAC and plumbing construction. This is a paid, full-time, on-site position based in Reston, Virginia. You will gain exposure to the full project lifecycle, from initial planning to final closeout.
What you'll do#
- Assist with project planning, scheduling, and coordination.
- Support day-to-day project activities, including RFIs, submittals, change orders, and procurement.
- Review HVAC and plumbing drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
- Track project progress and maintain organized, accurate records.
- Coordinate with project teams, subcontractors, vendors, and field personnel.
- Participate in project meetings and site visits.
- Support closeout tasks like punch lists and turnover documentation.
- Learn our internal project management processes, quality requirements, and safety standards.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- Interest in commercial construction, specifically HVAC and plumbing systems.
- Ability to read construction drawings or a strong willingness to learn.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Initiative to ask questions and gain hands-on experience.
- Previous construction experience is a plus.
Location & details#
- Location: Reston, Virginia. This is an on-site role with opportunities to visit project sites in the DMV area.
- Compensation: $25.00 per hour.
- Employment Type: Full-time.
