About the role#
This internship provides hands-on experience in active safety and driver assistance technologies. You will work on projects involving park assist, automated parking, collision avoidance, and blind spot detection. You will collaborate with application engineers, system teams, and mechanical designers to assist with vehicle testing, component integration, and data analysis. This is a year-round position for current students or recent graduates.
What you'll do#
- Assist with active safety testing on test tracks and setup test environments for project vehicles.
- Review system requirements and create basic test cases.
- Perform log and trace analysis using standard industry tools.
- Learn how sensors like ultrasonic units and cameras integrate into vehicles.
- Shadow-review mechanical packaging.
- Assist with ECU flashing and calibration setup.
- Draft test specifications, test reports, and configuration sheets.
- Collaborate with domestic and global engineering teams.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing or recently graduated with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Fundamental understanding of mechanical principles, such as static and dynamic forces, and basic vehicle dynamics.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and self-motivation.
- Solid written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Basic exposure to programming or script writing is a plus.
- Previous project or coursework exposure to active safety, driver assistance systems, or automotive development is preferred.
Location & details#
- This role is based in Auburn Hills, Michigan, and Troy, Michigan. Candidates must be able to work from both offices as business needs require.
- This is a full-time, paid, on-site internship.
