About the role#
The Coe Student Innovation Center (CSIC) is seeking creative student innovators to support day-to-day operations across three campus locations. As a Makerspace Aide, you will serve as an ambassador for the lab, assisting students, faculty, and community members with 3D design, fabrication, and troubleshooting. This role involves maintaining equipment, enforcing safety policies, and facilitating project-based learning. You will gain technical training in device assembly and operations while contributing to a collaborative environment focused on STEAM education and outreach.
What you'll do#
- Monitor and maintain CSIC hardware and software, including 3D printers, electronics, and fabrication tools.
- Provide instructional assistance, orientations, and workshops for diverse groups, including K-12 students and university staff.
- Develop teaching materials, handouts, and online resources to support lab users.
- Assist visitors with 3D modeling, circuitry, and robotics projects.
- Implement and uphold lab policies, safety procedures, and equipment maintenance protocols.
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions to support team objectives and professional growth.
- Demonstrate creative problem-solving and an aptitude for learning new technologies.
What you'll need#
- High school education or higher.
- A valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record compliant with university business requirements.
- Enthusiasm for emergent technology, tinkering, and creative design.
- Ability to be motivated, energetic, and detail-oriented.
- Experience or strong interest in at least one of the following: 3D printing, 3D modeling, scanning, robotics, electronics, coding, STEAM lesson plan development, or academic outreach.
- Ability to learn tasks requiring eye-hand coordination and tool use.
- Strong verbal and presentation skills to engage effectively with a diverse population.
Location & details#
- This is an on-site position located in Laramie, Wyoming, across three campus sites: SCiDIY (BS37), CoeSCI, and MakeIT (ITC).
- This is a paid, rolling work-study opportunity.
