About the role#
The Branding Iron Staff Writer researches, reports, and creates content for the university newspaper, digital platforms, and WyoWire broadcasting. This role involves developing stories across multiple formats and working with the broader Student Media team.
What you'll do#
- Produce at least three stories each week.
- Research, report, and write news, feature, and enterprise stories.
- Create content for print, web, social media, and broadcast.
- Conduct interviews, attend events, and gather information from reliable sources.
- Write clear, accurate copy for various audiences.
- Assist with video, audio, and multimedia reporting.
- Verify facts, names, and quotes before publication.
- Collaborate with editors, photographers, videographers, and broadcast staff.
- Participate in newsroom activities, staff meetings, and training.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a student with satisfactory academic standing.
- Strong reporting, writing, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet strict deadlines.
- Understanding of news writing and journalistic ethics.
- Availability for publication deadlines on Sundays and Wednesday nights.
- Availability for training on Tuesdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
- Knowledge of AP and BI stylebooks is preferred.
- Willingness to learn multimedia and broadcast storytelling.

- This position is located on-site in Laramie, Wyoming.
- This is a paid, hourly role with a rolling term.
