About the role#
The Branding Iron Editor leads the editorial and production operations for the University of Wyoming student newspaper. This position is responsible for directing news coverage, managing publication workflows, and maintaining high standards of journalistic quality. The editor mentors student staff, oversees visual presentation, and fosters collaboration across student media platforms.
What you'll do#
- Oversee editorial operations, including story development, planning, and publication scheduling.
- Supervise a team of editors, designers, writers, and photographers.
- Manage newspaper layout, visual presentation, and print production.
- Ensure editorial accuracy, AP style compliance, and overall publication quality.
- Coordinate coverage across news, sports, entertainment, features, and opinion sections.
- Train student journalists in reporting, writing, editing, and newsroom practices.
- Collaborate with digital and broadcast teams on multimedia storytelling.
- Support audience engagement and readership growth strategies.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a University of Wyoming student with a minimum 2.5 GPA.
- Demonstrated experience in student journalism, newspaper production, or related media organizations.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with proficiency in Associated Press (AP) style.
- Experience with page design and production software, specifically Adobe InDesign and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Proven leadership, organizational, and time management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a newsroom environment.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as required by production schedules.
- Majors in Communications, Journalism, Media Studies, or English are preferred.
Location & details#
- Term: Fall 2026.
- Work modality: On-site in Laramie, Wyoming.
- Commitment: Full-time, minimum 20 hours per week. At least 10 hours must be completed between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
- Start date: August 24, 2026.
- Status: Paid position.
