About the role#
The Branding Iron Assistant Editor and Lead Copy Editor supports the editorial production of the publication. This role assists the Editor-in-Chief in maintaining accuracy, AP style compliance, and publication quality while managing production deadlines and supervising the copy editing team.
What you'll do#
- Serve as the lead copy editor, ensuring accuracy, clarity, grammar, and spelling.
- Review and edit articles, headlines, captions, and other content before production.
- Design, paginate, and prepare newspaper pages for print and digital publication.
- Proofread page layouts and final production files to ensure quality.
- Supervise and mentor copy editors, assign editing tasks, and review completed work.
- Maintain regular office hours of at least 15 hours per week.
- Participate in editorial meetings, production nights, and breaking news projects.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a full-time student.
- A minimum 2.5 GPA.
- Availability to start work on August 24, 2026.
- Availability for publication deadlines on Sundays and Wednesday nights.
- Availability on Tuesdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. for training.
- Strong writing, editing, and organizational skills, with a preference for experience in newspaper layout or Adobe InDesign.
