IAE Robotics Internship - Fall 2026

About the role#

The IAE Robotics Internship is a collaborative program between the University of South Florida Institute of Applied Engineering and SOFWERX. This role supports the development of innovative capabilities to address complex challenges. Interns will work on-site in Tampa, Florida, and gain experience in a research-focused environment.

What you'll do#

• Design, prototype, and test robotic equipment in collaboration with DefenseWERX.
• Conduct research on technology-focused topics.
• Consult and engage with subject matter experts.
• Participate in weekly market research and submit required entries for new technologies and capabilities.

What you'll need#

• U.S. citizenship is required due to Department of Defense funding and potential access to Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI).
• Current enrollment as a Junior or Senior pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Physics.
• A minimum GPA of 3.0.
• Experience creating Arduino circuits.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Familiarity with or willingness to learn test equipment, including multi-meters, spectrum analyzers, mixed-signal oscilloscopes, Vector Network Analyzers, and RF power meters.
• Experience with Linux, Android, Mac OS X, or Ubuntu is preferred.
• Strong written and oral communication skills, along with effective planning and organizational abilities.

• Location: Tampa, Florida.
• Term: Fall 2026.
• Work Modality: On-site.
• Compensation: $18.50 per hour.
• Hours: 15 to 20 hours per week during the semester.
