IAE Computer Science Internship - Fall 2026

About the role#

The University of South Florida Institute of Applied Engineering (IAE) is seeking an intern for the Fall 2026 term to work with SOFWERX. This role supports the development of innovative capabilities for the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM). Interns will be hired as both USF IAE temporary employees and SOFWERX student interns.

What you'll do#

• Design, prototype, and test software systems.
• Build, deploy, and maintain applications and infrastructure within the AWS Cloud.
• Develop user-friendly interfaces to display analyzed data and AI model outputs.
• Conduct research on technology-focused topics and consult with subject matter experts.
• Participate in weekly market research and submit required entries regarding new technologies and capabilities.

What you'll need#

• U.S. citizenship is required due to Department of Defense funding and access to Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI).
• Current pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related field (Junior or Senior standing).
• Minimum GPA of 3.0.
• Strong background in software development and troubleshooting.
• Proficiency in Python and experience with machine learning libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Scikit-learn.
• Experience with Linux-based systems.
• Knowledge of RESTful API architecture and web development (React/Next, JavaScript) is preferred.
• Familiarity with AWS services is desired.
• Strong planning, organizational, and communication skills.

• Compensation: $18.50/hour.
• Time commitment: 15–20 hours per week during the semester.
