RN Nurse Externship - Nursing Student

About the role#

Trinity Health in Muskegon is seeking nursing students for an RN Nurse Externship within Med/Surg units. This is a part-time, per diem position requiring a minimum of 32 hours of work per month. Orientation is scheduled Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

What you'll do#

Under the supervision of a licensed registered nurse, externs perform clinical tasks following the completion of relevant academic theory. Responsibilities include:

• Performing admission assessments and initiating clinical paths or care plans.
• Documenting care provided on appropriate records.
• Assisting with pre-operative preparation, including patient teaching and chart review.
• Monitoring equipment such as feeding pumps, JP drains, heating pads, specialty beds, and suction devices.
• Performing clinical skills including Foley insertion, patient positioning, NG insertion, dressing changes, tracheostomy care, suture or staple removal, tube feedings, vital signs, wound care, and enemas.

Note: Externs may not manage IVs or IV pumps, administer blood products, pass medications, or take physician phone or verbal orders.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in the final year of an accredited RN or BSN program in good standing.
• Successful completion of the first year of nursing clinicals and skills validation through an accredited ADN program.
• Current BLS certification and maintained nursing knowledge.
• Submission of one clinical instructor feedback form and academic transcripts upon application.
