Internship - Drop-In Center

About the role#

The Drop-In Intern supports clients at the center by facilitating individual and group activities. The goal is to increase community involvement and help clients build skills in social communication, coping, problem-solving, self-care, and symptom management. You will provide client-centered, strengths-based, and trauma-informed services to individuals with severe mental illness and co-occurring substance abuse disorders. The role includes weekly supervision with an LCSW and project supervision from the Drop-In Team Leader, along with initial training and shadowing.

What you'll do#

• Facilitate milieu-based interventions to help clients improve or maintain their ability to function in interpersonal situations.
• Assist the Team Leader with operational tasks, including inventory management and restocking office, laundry, shower, and café areas.
• Document services provided using the agency’s electronic medical record system.
• Coordinate with other departments to address facility needs, such as maintenance or IT issues.
• Ensure the completion of routine safety drills according to organizational policies.
• Participate in ongoing education and training to strengthen service delivery.
• Consult with other departments to support the coordination of client care.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling.
• A strong interest in working with individuals diagnosed with mental health conditions or substance abuse disorders.
• The ability to remain flexible and adaptable in various situations.
