About the role#
TotalBond Veterinary Hospital offers an externship program for veterinary students to gain practical experience in a clinical setting. This program supports your transition from the classroom to professional practice by providing hands-on training under the guidance of a mentor doctor. Externships are flexible, typically lasting two to three weeks, though they can range from two to eight weeks depending on your curriculum requirements. You will work a schedule that includes days, evenings, and weekends.
What you'll do#
Externs participate in the daily operations of a small animal practice. You will work alongside our veterinary team to:
- Gather patient histories.
- Perform physical examinations.
- Develop diagnostic and therapeutic plans.
- Scrub in to surgery.
- Assist in the management of medical cases.
- Provide wellness care.
- Develop client communication skills.
- Polish technical skills.
- Produce medical records including SOAPs.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited DVM program.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Current professional liability insurance.
