Industrial Engineering Intern

About the role#

The Industrial Engineering Intern will support manufacturing engineering and process excellence initiatives within the UPS manufacturing environment. This position offers hands-on exposure to production systems, digital transformation, and data-driven decision-making. You will work alongside Plant Engineering and cross-functional teams to improve efficiency, visibility, and data accuracy across production operations.

What you'll do#

• Support manufacturing projects focused on improving production efficiency, workflow optimization, and standard work development.
• Conduct production time studies to analyze cycle times, labor utilization, and bottlenecks in assembly and test processes.
• Assist with the documentation of processes, findings, and improvement recommendations.
• Support the deployment of electronic shelf labels and digital signage to replace paper-based indicators.
• Integrate assembly status data using i-Reporter to provide real-time visibility to production teams.
• Assist in defining and organizing database structures to support future reporting and analytics.
• Validate the data accuracy and effectiveness of digital tools on the shop floor.

What you'll need#

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with data analysis or visualization tools is a plus.
• Ability to work effectively in a manufacturing or production environment.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Interest in continuous improvement methodologies, such as Lean or Six Sigma, is preferred.
