About the role#
Thomas & Hutton is hiring a Civil Design Intern for our Columbia, South Carolina office. This is a full-time, on-site, paid internship focused on gaining practical experience in land development and site design. You will work alongside experienced engineers and designers on projects across the Southeast.
What you'll do#
- Prepare site-development plans for residential, commercial, and industrial projects.
- Design water, sewer, and storm-drainage layouts and construction drawings.
- Help prepare permit packages and coordinate with regulatory agencies.
- Assist with modeling and drafting using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Support project documentation, organization, and daily tasks for project managers and design teams.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Interest in land development and site design.
- Basic knowledge of AutoCAD, with preference for experience in Civil 3D.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and learn in a team setting.

- Location: Columbia, South Carolina.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (Flexibility is available for academic commitments).
