About the role#
This internship provides an opportunity to participate in the winemaking process from grape to finished product. You will shadow various roles within the facility, including cellar, compliance, and lab operations, to build your technical knowledge and leadership skills. This is a full-time, six-month commitment designed for students or recent graduates to gain hands-on production experience.
What you'll do#
- Supervise grape processing during crush season, including managing grape trucks and directing tank operations.
- Learn lab procedures, identify wine specifications for various varietals, and pull tank samples.
- Participate in facility sanitation and prepare for daily production startups.
- Conduct daily fermenter tastings and perform tank walks twice per day.
- Document production-scale winemaking trials and assist with benchtop trials like fining and blending.
- Write and close work orders under the direction of the winemaker.
- Learn equipment functions by working alongside operators.
- Provide status reports upon the completion of major tasks.
What you'll need#
- Must be 21 years or older at the start of employment.
- Enrolled in or a recent graduate of an undergraduate program in Viticulture and Enology, with Junior-level coursework or higher.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Ability to commit to at least six months of full-time work.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer aptitude.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to solve problems creatively.
- Ability to work independently and effectively within a team environment.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a commitment to safety regulations.
Location & details#
- Locations: Fresno, Glen Ellen, Ripon, Soledad, and Woodbridge, California.
- Compensation: $24.00 per hour.
- Modality: On-site.
- Physical demands: Ability to perform tasks like bending, stooping, and standing, with the ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.
