About the role#
As a Winemaking Intern, you will work under the supervision of the Winemaker to support wine quality from grape to finished product. This role involves rotating through different areas of the facility, including the cellar, compliance, and the analytical lab, to gain a broad understanding of production practices while building your leadership skills. You will be expected to provide status reports upon the completion of major tasks.
What you'll do#
- Participate in facility sanitation to learn basic processes before the season begins.
- Supervise grape processing during the crush season, including managing grape trucks from the test stand to the tanks.
- Ensure all additions, circulations, and pressings are completed on time and according to winemaking directions.
- Conduct daily tank walks and participate in fermenter tastings.
- Document production-scale winemaking trials and assist with benchtop trials like blending and fining.
- Write and close out production work orders under the guidance of the Winemaker.
- Learn the function of all cellar equipment by working alongside operators.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or recent graduation from an undergraduate program in Viticulture and Enology, with Junior-level standing or higher.
- A GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Ability to commit to at least six months of full-time work.
- Must be 21 years or older.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer aptitude.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to solve problems creatively.
- Ability to work independently or within a team while following safety regulations.
- Physical ability to stand, bend, stoop, and twist in a production environment, including lifting up to 50 lbs.
